Judy Lynn Software, Inc. develops software for individuals with special needs from early cause & effect up to transitional skills. Judy Lynn Software, Inc was founded by Elliot & Myra Pludwinski in 1991 when they couldn’t find special needs software for their daughter Judy.  Elliot, a programmer by trade, began developing “Cause & Effect” software on an IBM desktop computer and with guidance from a friend at Bell Labs, created his own switch interface.

Judy responded very well to the software and her teacher suggested that others would benefit from the software as well. Judy, like most other children with special needs, is easily distracted.  To avoid distraction, Elliot knew that the software must have a black background, very lively colorful animations, and exaggerated sound effects to hold her attention.  This has become the foundation of all Judy Lynn Software programs and all software developed by the company continues to retain these features.

Judy Lynn Software currently has 22 programs ranging from cause & effect, choice making, matching, sequencing, literacy, and life skills. Their product line is extensive and covers all ages, even as young as nine months. Each program is reviewed by teachers and therapists for its educational content before it is released.  Many of the programs allow you to add your own content and most of the programs automatically collect data on a student level. All of the software is accessible by switches, touch window, mouse, or keyboard. jls405

The ConnSENSE Bulletin recently chose two of Judy Lynn’s new programs as among best in show at ATIA 2011. Match Maker & Quiz Creator (matching activities with games and quizzes) and Pick and Choose (soundboard storybook software) are irresistible and loaded with customizable features. Recently released is LISTEN & RESPOND (Standard & Professional), an interactive software program designed to introduce and reinforce the connection of a verbal request to pictures or words within seven familiar environments. The environments include a cafeteria, convenience store, school store, farmers’ market, hardware store, boutique, and sporting goods store. The software accomplishes this in a role playing environment where the student is working behind the counter in one of the seven different stores provided by the program. This program is useful for transitional skills, life skills, and pre-vocational skills training. Data is automatically recorded and can be viewed in a spreadsheet or text format.
