Only
The Best is an annual ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development)
publication including software and multimedia applications that have met the
criteria of Only The Best. Only The Best gathers reviews from about 25 software
evaluators each year. To be included in Only The Best a piece of software must
have received an excellent review by at least two of the evaluators.
New for the 1999-2000 edition is the listing of Gardner's Multiple Intelligences for each piece of software. Looks like it might have been influenced in this regard by the Florida Educational Software Catalog.
Only The Best's evaluators include seven from the field of special education. These include Alliance for Technology Access, Closing The Gap, ConnSENSE, Internet TESL Journal, Laureate Learning Systems, Software To Go, and Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). We are very proud to have been an evaluator for Only The Best for several years.
Only The Best 1999-2000 is available in print form: $25 (ASCD members), $29 (nonmembers). There is also a Win/Mac CD-ROM version that includes all listings 1990-99: $125 (members), $150 (nonmembers).
Only The Best Internet Version is available as part of ASCD's subscription service, Select Online. In addition to the most recent Only the Best records, this Internet-based resource also features searchable full-text versions of other ASCD's publications such as Educational Leadership, the Curriculum Handbook, and Curriculum/Technology Quarterly. A year's subscription is available to ASCD members for $25 and to nonmembers for $29. Student pricing is also available.
