Community Inclusion Through Technology, International, know as the CITTI Project, provides technical assistance to leaders in existing programs, schools, and agencies serving people with disabilities in developing countries. We cultivate assistive technology expertise where none exists. The project supports each community according to their values, culture, and social-economic structures.
The CITTI Project selects one organization each year through an application process to receive technical assistance. Our team provides assistive technology training and consultation for use in the classroom, workplace, and community.
The technical assistance available to developing communities includes:
Support for selecting assistive technology Increased knowledge of assistive technology resources Training on how to use assistive technology products Increased community awareness of technology available to people with disabilities
The 2004 CITTI Project in San Luis Potosi, Mexico:
In July 2004, the CITTI Project is providing technical support in the community of San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Assistive technology training will be held at the CENTRO DE REHABILITACION INTEGRAL PARA PERSONAS CON DANO NEUROLOGICO, A.C., a school for students with disabilities in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Participants will include teachers and service providers from around the area.
The team includes assistive technology specialist Bridgett Perry (project founder), Helen Miller, and Maggie Morales. The 2004 CITTI Project will be documented by photojournalist Chaya Spector. We will be joined by our 2004 project partner Alicia Contreras, Director of Women Pushing Forward, (formerly Whirlwind Women of Tides.)Women Pushing Forward is an organization dedicated to increasing mobility and the life changing opportunities mobility provides for women with disabilities in developing countries.
The 2004 project is sponsored by AbleNet and IntelliTools. Contributors also include SoftTouch, Telethon Mexico and Rotarians International.
