CITTI Project - Ecuador 2006

The CITTI Project is very pleased to extend this opportunity to join us in our study tour - Ecuador 2006. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with families new to assistive technology. Our project will focus on non-tech/low-tech communication strategies and daily living aids, and the fabrication of tools to enhance mobility and independence.

The project will take place in the countryside of Huambalo, Ecuador, a small rural community nestled in the Andes. Arriving in Quito, elevation 9300 feet, we will travel to Ambato to visit several disability related organizations. While working in Huambalo, we will stay in the nearby small town of Banos, famous for its hot springs, and its scenery.

Space is limited, and participants will be selected through a review and interview process. Selection will be based on skills and experience that best meet needs of the project. There are two options for participation: professionals with 3 plus years, and interns (typically students or individuals with less experience.) There are separate applications for each. If you are interested in receiving an application, please send an email to info@cittiproject.org Indicate which application you prefer.

Professional Participation: For professionals with at least 3 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist (OT), Physical Therapist (PT), Speech and Language Therapist (SLP), Special Educator, Assistive Technology Specialist, or other professionals in the disability field. Travel dates: Saturday, July 22, 2006 to Saturday, August 5, 2006. To apply, please request the “Application for Professionals”. $1650 includes 14 nights/15 days - a total 2 weeks. Spanish is not essential but a basic vocabulary will definitely enhance your experience.

Internship Participation: Opportunities are available for participation by students or others with less professional experience through our intern programs. The interns will participate in the same itinerary with an additional week in Ambato to complete a community service project with a local disability organization. The additional week in Ambato will include a family home stay. Travel dates: Saturday, July 22, 2006 to Saturday, August 12, 2006. To apply, please request the “Application for Interns”. $1650 includes 21 nights/22 days including one-week family home stay - a total 3 weeks. Spanish speaking interns are especially encouraged to apply.

Price includes all accommodation, meals, in-country transportation, group activities, supplies for service projects, guides, a translator, and logistical support. PRICE DOES NOT include international airfare, visa, exit tax, tips, or incidental expenses.

You will also be in the good company of our CITTI Project Team Leaders Maggie Morales, Russ Holland, and me, Bridgett Perry, plus our photojournalist Chaya Spector. Our application details the program information, policies, and agreements. Feel free to contact me directly should you have any questions. Again, if you are interested in receiving an application, please send an email to info@cittiproject.org . Indicate which application you prefer. Our deadline is March 1, 2006.

We are very excited to share this opportunity with all of you. We hope you will consider joining us!
