An Update on the CITTI Project

In July of 2004 Bridgett Perry wrote an article documenting the activities of the Community Inclusion Through Technology International (CITTI) Project. You can find that article at: http://www.connsensebulletin.com/citti.html

July 20th of this year I received the following Email from Bridgett updating us on the project's most recent activities in Ecuador. The CITTI Project is one of the international disability related projects that the STEP International email list is following. For more information on STEP International, please follow this link: http://www.connsensebulletin.com/stepi

I am checking my email from an internet cafe in Ambato Ecuador. Three of us from the CITTI Projectare currently meeting with many disability related organizations here to learn about disability issues and to exchange information regarding assistive technology. What a rich and wonderful experience.

We have met with a range of people from babies to adults. As you can imagine, conditions and services are quite different here than in the US. However, we have learned so much from everyone here and anticipate returning to Ecuador next summer for a project in the countryside of Huambalo. It was there that I had one of the most meaningful days of my life.

Please let me know if anyone is interested in joining a CITTI Project Study Tour. I will be happy to send details, including dates and costs, as soon as they are set. We currently anticipate traveling for around 12 days in July-August of 2006. We are especially looking for professional OTs, PTs, SLPs and ATs who are kind, generous, flexible, and adventurous in the truest sense of the word. (an option for credits will be available) If you wish for more information about this journey, please send me an email at bridgett@cittiproject.org. Space will be limited.

Our website is not current with this information but if you wish to read about the project we did the last three years in Mexico, visit our site at http://cittiproject.org

My Spanish is more like spanglish but I am getting better everyday. Off to meet with the Rotarians to plea for money.

Sending my best from South America,

Bridgett
