The Special Education Program at Arizona State University is searching for three new faculty members: a senior-level scholar, an assistant/associate professor, and a clinical assistant/associate professor. The tenure-track senior level appointment will be made at the rank of associate or full professor in any specialization. For this position, required qualifications include an earned doctorate in special education or a related field; (appropriate to rank) a national reputation in special education, a strong publication record, an established record of significant external grant support, and effectiveness in university teaching. Primary responsibilities include continuing research and grant writing; providing leadership in program development; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; advising masters and doctoral students; participating in faculty governance; and participating in service activities at the local, state, and national levels. This position will be available for Fall, 2002.
The tenure-track assistant/associate position is open in any area of specialization. Required qualifications include an earned doctoral degree in special education or a related field; (appropriate to rank) evidence of developing a significant research agenda, and effectiveness in university teaching. Desired characteristics (also appropriate to rank) include experience in collaborating with schools and agencies, experience in seeking external grant support, and effectiveness in university teaching. Primary responsibilities include conducting and publishing research; grant writing; participating in program development; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; student advisement; involvement in faculty governance; and participating in service activities at the local, state, and national levels. This position will be available for Fall, 2002.
The clinical assistant/associate professor position will be a full-time, non-tenure track, 9-month appointment offered with a 3-year renewable contract beginning in January, 2002. Required qualifications include an earned doctoral degree in special education or a related field; (appropriate to rank) substantial experience in supervision of preservice teacher placements, successful experience in developing school, university, and state department partnerships, K-12 teaching experience, effectiveness in university teaching, and a record of scholarship. It is highly desired that the successful candidate have a well-articulated research agenda in the area of university/school partnerships and/or teacher development. Primary responsibilities include coordination of the initial teacher certification program in Special Education (currently offering certificates in mental retardation, learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, physical disabilities and other health impairments, as well cross-categorical certification); function as a liaison between university-school-state personnel who are committed to collaborative special education personnel preparation; provide leadership in special education program needs assessment and evaluation; teaching university courses, and conducting research.
Salary for these three positions is very competitive and may include additional remuneration for summer teaching.
