CASE/TAM Assistive Technology Policy and Practice Series

The Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE) and the Technology and Media Division (TAM) of the Council for Exceptional Children have published two monographs in their Assistive Technology Policy and Practice Series.

First was "Has Technology Been Considered? A Guide for IEP Teams" (50 pages) by A. C. Chambers. It was published in 1997 and provides a nice guide on assistive technology. In addition to what assistive technology is, why it may be needed, information on the laws which direct it, the booklet provides a framework to guide the IEP team as they consider the assistive technology needs of a child with special needs.

The latest publication (1998) is "Assistive Technology in Special Education Policy & Practice" (62 pages) by Diane Golden. The goal of this monograph is to provide an overview of the critical policy and practice issues facing educators in the area of assistive technology and to discuss the emerging policy directives and best practices for service delivery in a way that is supportive of quality AT programs in schools.

These booklets both sell for $12.95 each and can be ordered from:
