A Letter from Joy Zabala: A Special Training Session Offered at TAM Conference in Portland, Maine

Dear Chauncy,

As you know, the Technology and Media Division (TAM) of CEC is holding its national conference in collaboration with the Teacher Education Division (TED) in Portland, Maine from November 9 through November 12. As the current president of TAM, I am writing to let you know of a professional development opportunity that TAM is offering for teachers and administrators in Maine and surrounding states on Saturday, November 12.

Many of the authors of the TAM Monograph Series will be in Portland for the conference and the TAM board meeting that will be held in conjunction with the conference. TAM wants very much to support the fine efforts to provide quality AT services already being made in the northeast, thus, following the conference, several of us have agreed to provide a full day of training on the three major functions currently included in the monographs in the series–consideration, technology integration, and administrative support–for educators in New England who may or may not be attending the conference. The session will take place at the Bayside Holiday Inn in Portland and will be very reasonably priced – $100. per participant – and will include not only the day of training, but also a copy of each of the monographs (valued at over $50.). Quite a bargain, to be sure!

November 12 is not too far away, so time is of the essence in getting the word out about this session. I hope that you will find this session of interest and will agree to forward the attached flyer with information and a registration form to mailing lists that you might maintain for special education directors, principals, and assistive technology coordinators and others around the state and urge them to make their teachers aware of this opportunity. The session is appropriate for all leaders like those mentioned and for teachers who may be involved in any way with students with disabilities. Attendance at the TED/TAM conference is NOT required, but enrollment in the session is limited to the first 100 registrants. We want to be sure that educators in the area get the information right away so that they have the greatest opportunity to attend.

Please accept my apologies for being so late in getting this note to you. Due to the hurricane evacuees in our area from Hurricane Katrina and our own evacuation for Hurricane Rita (which fortunately caused little damage the greater Houston area) I have been much delayed in getting this information out. If there are others to whom I should send information about the session, in Maine or in surrounding states, I would appreciate it very much if you would send me their email addresses so that I can contact them as soon as possible.

Please do not hesitate to contact me by email or by phone (979-415-4555) if you have any questions or ideas.

I look forward to seeing you in November in Portland.

Warm regards,

Joy
